Murder arrest after boy run over by bus

Police suspect Ezekiel Amosu, 17, was either pushed or chased into path of bus after fight in Walthamstow, east London

A 15-year-old boy has been questioned by police on suspicion of murdering a teenager who was run over and killed by a bus.

Detectives said Ezekiel Amosu, 17, from Walthamstow, east London, may have been trying to escape from a gang who tried to rob him, or shoved under the bus by them.

The student suffered fatal crush injuries when he was hit by the westbound number 123 in Walthamstow on Monday night. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan police attended after reports that there had been a fight in the street beforehand. Detective Chief Inspector John Sandlin, who is leading the investigation, said the teenager had been walking with four friends when a gang demanded his mobile phone.

"What happened exactly is unclear at this stage but we believe that he may have been the victim of an attempted robbery minutes beforehand.

"The area would have been quite busy with people at that time of night and I would urge anyone with information to call police as soon possible."

Witnesses told police a group of youths ran away after the bus hit Ezekiel.

The 15-year-old suspect was arrested at an address in Walthamstow and taken into custody at an east London police station.
